Westwood, MA—Plexus Technology Group, LLC (Plexus TG), a market-leading provider of Anesthesia Information Management Systems (AIMS), announced today that Oswego Hospital, a 164-bed acute care community hospital located in Oswego, NY, began implementing Plexus TG’ Anesthesia Information and Medication Management System in collaboration with the Codonics Safe Label System® (SLS), which is accessible through single sign-on.
Oswego Hospital’s selection process focused on finding a solution that combines the anesthesia and pharmacy recordkeeping systems in order to eliminate duplicate documentation and to provide the clinicians with a single medication recording system. Oswego Hospital was looking for not just an electronic record, but rather a full solution for labeling, tracking, and documenting anesthesia-delivered medications.
Using the integrated Codonics & Plexus TG solution, a single scan of the medication vial by the clinicians will trigger an on-board formulary to confirm the medication electronically and immediately produces a full-color compliant medication label complete with a barcode for AIMS integration. Simultaneously, the medication dispense transaction is recorded, seamlessly updating Pharmacy’s inventory counts and controlled substance tracking. When anesthesia is ready to deliver the medication to the patient, a quick wave of the labeled syringe past the barcode scanner triggers documentation in Anesthesia Touch, including real-time safety checks and automated pharmacy charging.
“We selected Plexus TG as we found their system to be the most intuitive on the market and one that our end users will find very efficient,” said Barry Ryle, Oswego Health Chief Information Officer. “Plexus TG has also been responsive to our needs, tailoring the system to meet our specific work flow requirements.”
“We are proud to partner with Oswego Hospital to provide their patients with new technology that reinforces safety efforts throughout the entire surgical process. Oswego Hospital is the first to implement the integrated technology combining the Plexus TG anesthesia and drug management system, the Codonics Safe Label System, and the Capsa Solutions Anesthesia Cart. This comprehensive solution allows medications to be securely stored, easily dispensed, properly labeled, and electronically reconciled at the point of care with documentation in Anesthesia Touch,” said Albert Woo, M.D., President at Plexus Technology Group. “Furthermore, we are excited to team up with Codonics and Capsa Solutions at Oswego Hospital and look forward to working together on future projects.”
